Do It Right to Maintain Positive Connections

So you find yourself in the enviable but uncomfortable position of having to turn down a job offer.

It doesn’t matter if the reason for declining the position; whether you feel that the offer was not acceptable, work conditions do not fit with you lifestyle, or you have accepted another offer.

The way you decline a job offer will say a lot about your character.

Employers spend many hours interviewing and evaluating candidates for positions. When they have chosen a candidate they most likely would like to know quickly if the candidate will accept the position.

Most companies expect you to take a few days to consider the offer or Negotiate the offer.

However, if you know that you are not planning on accepting the offer, it is best to let the company know right away.

Remember to maintain a positive and thankful tone.

Let the company know that, although you feel honored that they have offered you the position, you have decided to pursue your career elsewhere.

There is no need to go into details about where you are going or why you have decided to decline the offer. Just be brief and positive.

Remember that you do not want to burn any bridges.

It is always a good idea to send a letter to the declining the offer. E-mail or faxing your letter to the potential employer is the best as it is quick.

Sending your letter via regular mail works as long as you have declined then offer verbally.
