Second Interview Tips
Page 1
You have been invited for a second interview? Congratulations!
These second interview tips will help you prepare for and stand out in additional interviews.
You did well in your first interview. Good job. Many people believe the first interview is the hardest since it is when most candidates are weeded out.
When hiring for career type positions, most companies will conduct several interviews. The interview process will be different from company to company. However, most second rounds of interviews will focus on your abilities, fit with the company and your weaknesses. (Yes, I did say weaknesses… we will get into this in more detail later on!)
During the second and subsequent rounds of interviews, you will be compared to others who, like you, are considered promising candidates. So it is very important that you are well prepared!
How will the second interview be different from the first?
Often the first interview is held by a human resource manager or recruiter. Second interviews are held by the hiring manager, his or her boss, and senior management. Therefore you can expect that the questions will be much more technical in nature. The interviewer will be evaluating your knowledge, skills and experience.
Building rapport with the interviewer(s) will be even more important since these are the people you will be working directly with. Before the interview, try to find out with whom you will be interviewing and do a little research on each person. Then sprinkle a few pieces of acquired knowledge throughout your conversation… “ I understand that you lead a team of 12 programmers…” This will show you have done your home work and will help build rapport.
