Know what you are worth before negotiating your salary!

If you are trying to decide what is best for you, then you should do a salary comparison before you make one more decision.

It will help when it comes time for salary negotiation

Get prepared!

When you know what the going rate is for salaries of the jobs that you want to do, you will have a better shot at getting what you want to be paid.

Be Prepared!

Let them know you understand the salary range and that you deserve to be paid what the going salary is.

There is no better way to be prepared for a new job than getting the facts first and knowing how to use them to your advantage.

It is that easy, so go ahead and use the right online tools to get started.

Being prepared is key in salary negotiations. Salary comparison tools and websites are very useful to help determine the fair market value of the position you are applying for.

As mentioned on my salary negotiations tips page, the proper time to discuss salary is when an offer is on the table. However, knowing the appropriate salary range before the first interview is crucial.

Why? Many potential employers will ask you for your salary expectations in the first interview. This is especially true if your first interview is a screening interview with a Human Resource specialist.

  • If your answer is too high you may be screened out of the process before being able to show your qualifications.

  • If you answer too low your initial salary offer may be low, or you may seem “under-qualified” based in your low salary requirements.

You should use several wage comparison methods, including Websites, talking to recruiters or asking colleagues/ friends in the field.
