STEP 1We all have preference when it comes to work environments/ job tasks. In step 1 you will take the time to assess common job attributes based on how appealing they are to you. This is the time to be honest with yourself. No one will see the results!
For example: Is it important to you to have the power to make key decisions and implement policies? Do you want to work alone with minimal supervision?Obviously the job market is tough right now. However, do you want a job just for the sake of having one or would you like to make the effort to work in a career that really interests you? The perfect job quiz is about you finding the work that will motivate you each day. STEP 2Look back at your answers in Step 1 and list your most and least important attributes. You will rank these in order of importance to you. Ranking is essential, so take the time to do it! For example: If work-life balance and advancement are both important to you, would you give up a promotion to maintain life balance? Or would you put more time in work to get a promotion? To be clear both will remain a "most important" attribute… you are simply putting an order to them.
STEP 3 This step is about skill assessment. Here you will list the skills you have acquired and then rate them as above average, average or below average. Make sure to check off all the skills you most enjoy. STEP 4 Evaluate your Career or Job Opportunity vs. Your Appealing Job Attributes and Skills. Look at the job description for the position/careers you are considering. It may also be a good idea to try and speak with people in the industry and/or company to find out key info such as... Tasks and Responsibilities Required Experience and Knowledge If you do not know the job description for a particular career you are interested in, Google can help. Simply type "Job description, your career interest" in a search. Review a few websites, since some will also give you salary and work condition guides.
EVALUATE: 1. Each task and responsibility vs. your Attribute "importance" ranking. 2. Required Experience and Knowledge vs. your Skill evaluation. How closely do they match up? If the tasks and responsibilities fit your "important attribute" list- great! You are on the right track… just review your experience and knowledge to determine any areas you will need to improve. If the tasks and responsibilities do not fit your "important attribute" list, continue to look for your perfect career/job.
