How often is too often to call about a job status

by Dualxeon
(WV)

I find a job posting, apply, should I call about it or vist the location.

Hi Dualxeon

The answer to your question really depends on the type of job you are applying for and how applications are received by the company.

Many companies have started asking candidates to apply on-line or by sending the CV by email.

If this is your situation, you should send your CV electronically. If you have not heard back from the company within 1 week you should follow up with them.

How to follow up? If you are applying at a retail store, I would visit the location and ask to speak with the manager.

Remember to bring a copy of your CV, since the manager likely received many. Going in person will show initiative and demonstrate your interest in working for that company.

If you are applying on an office-type position, a phone call is the best follow up as it is unlikely you will be able to see the hiring manager if you show up without an appointment.

In both situations, you should ask the hiring manager what the next steps in the interview process will be and when you should expect a call regarding an interview.

If you are not called for an interview within the stated timeline, it is perfectly acceptable to call back and inquire if the position has been filled.

Good Luck finding your perfect job!
