Free Job Search Engines

There are many Internet sites and free job search engines to help you. Job search engines are effective ways to evaluate what job possibilities are out there. These sites/engines may be designed for general searcher or be industry/ company specific.

Most companies have a “career” page on their company websites. This page often lists jobs available and allows you to submit your resume directly. Often, you will be asked to describe your experience briefly before you are able to submit.

This description replaces a cover letter but is as important. Make sure to take the time to properly word this “brief skill summary” before sending it off. It your summary doesn’t catch the readers attention they may not review your resume.

The following is a list of some of the best job search engines:

Jobboom Jobshark Monster Recruiters on line Workopolis Jobwings

Remember that applying on line is very similar to answering a newspaper ad. Therefore, following the same suggestions will help you be successful in obtaining an interview.

1. Read the ad carefully and underline all important information (job title, required qualifications, deadline for submission, contact name etc)

2. Only respond to ads where your knowledge and experience are a good fit.

3. Your Cover Letter is extremely important. Make sure to show how your experience meets the requirements outlined in the ad. Do not make reference to requirements that you do not meet. Do include the name of the contact person on the letter (you may have to call the company to find out the name).

4. Tailor your resume to respond to the job requirements out-lined in the ad.

5. Keep a detail record of the ads you respond to (you may loose track if you respond to several). The best way is to staple the ad to a copy of the cover letter and resume sent.
