buyer

by Laura

My first full time job was at a retail shoe chain, and I was, as always, a go-getter, working my way up to manager and hopefully into home office.
Spent a full hour with a customer who was looking for shoes and matching bag, she was rather difficult but the sale was going to push me over my weekly budget and the commission would be a nice bonus. I was not impressed when I found out she was from home office and that neither the sale nor the commission would be credited to me (as was our store policy), and I told her so. She should have advised that she was from HO & should have 'served' herself, as was also store policy. Suffice to say I was rather vocal in my assesement of the situation.
Fast forward 3 months and I have my long awaited interview at home office- with, you got it, the shoe & bag lady....needless to say, I did NOT get the job. Fast forward 2 years to my interview for a buying position at another retailer, and would you believe.....yup...she was one step ahead of me yet again!!
