Salary Negotiation letter

Negotiating a raise

A salary negotiation letter may help you put your thoughts together and be a useful tool during the negotiation. However, the best way to negotiate a raise is in a face-to-face meeting.

That being said, if you cannot get that face-to-face meeting, a letter may be your best or only option.

Here is an example of what the letter should include:

Dear X,

I appreciate the opportunity to work for X company. I hope that you agree that in the past X months (years) I have become a vital part of your team and have contributed positively to the team’s success.

When I was hired we agreed to review my salary in XX months (years) based on my accomplishments. That date has passed and I would like to now meet with you to discuss a pay raise based on performance.

The positive contributions I have made include:

List of major accomplishments/skills.
Bullet points are best

As well, I have taken on the extra responsibilities of xxxx.

I strongly feel that these accomplishments merit a salary review. Based on Company and industry norms the average salary for this position is $XX. Therefore a respectfully request a $X salary increase.

I enjoy working with our team and am ready to take on extra responsibilities to ensure the company’s continued success.

I look forward to your response.

Yours truly,

Take the time to make sure your letter reflects the great work you have done!
