Networking Basics: 101
Many people do not understand the basic principals of establishing and maintain a business network.
For most, the question of establishing a network comes into play only when they are in the midst of looking for a job. Although there is never a bad time to start networking, this is obviously not the ideal time.

When is the ideal time? Right Now!!
Thinking of networking as the best way to keep your career healthy. There are many ways that networking can help your career. Your network can :
Give you advice or mentor you,
Put you in contact with potential clients,
Give you information on industry changes or competitive information,
Help you find potential candidates to hire
And, of course, help with your job search.
The more people in your network, the more information, opportunities and ultimately career success you will have.
So how do you build a network?
Start with everyone you know. This not only includes colleagues but also family members, friends, old classmates and acquaintances. How can family members, friends, old classmates and acquaintances help build your business network when they are not in the same field? Easy – they also have friends and acquaintances- some of whom can help you.
I recommend that you ask each of your current network to introduce you to someone in your field of interest. Then ask that person to do the same. Some may be valuable contacts, others not… but keep these contacts as they may be very important to you in the future!
