Job interview tips - The Basics

There are several pages to this Job interview tips section. Take the time to read through them thoroughly.

You have been invited to an interview?

Congratulations.

That means that your Cover Letter and Resume were effective!

An interview is rarely a “test” of your competencies. The fact that you were invited to an interview indicates that the potential employer believes that you are qualified to do the job.

So what is the interviewer assessing?

The interviewer will not only be assessing your qualifications for the job but also to find out what you are like and how well you would fit within the organisation.

Much research has been done on “First Impressions” . This research shows that what you say is not nearly as important as how you say it.

That does not mean that the job will be awarded to the most “personable” candidate despite competencies. However, it does mean that the interviewer will not give you the chance to show how good you are if they are not comfortable with you.

It is natural to be nervous during an interview. Just remember that the experience indicted in your cover letter and resume got you noticed. Treat the interview as a conversation with colleagues in your field...

And, use the following job interview tips!

The success of the interview depends upon subjective criteria like:

Do you fit on the team?
Can we work together?
Can you articulate convincingly why you should be hired and why are you interested in the position?

The best way to put the odds in your favour is by research and practice.
