Who should write this type of Resume?

• Candidates looking to change careers or enter a new field of work,
• Candidates returning to work after a long absence,
• Candidates who have moved from job to job,

Where a chronological resume will focus on your experience, functional resumes emphasize your skills.
You have acquired skills through life experiences, volunteer work, education and, of course, working. This type of resume will focus on your experiences and allow you to show how these “transferable” skills would be of benefit to a potential employer.
Before applying for a position, consider what skills the employer will be looking for. Do you have these skills? If yes, then this is the resume for you. If you do not have the required skills do not claim to.
In this resume you will list your skills under a heading like: “Relevant Skills and Accomplishments” or “Relevant Experience and Accomplishments”. In this section you should list 3-4 major skill sets that your desired job requires. Skills could include selling experience, managerial experience, customer relations…
Under each major skill set list, in bullet form 3-5 accomplishments that demonstrate that you are competent at that skill.
Always start sentences with Actions words, like Achieved, Succeeded, Initiated…
If you are unable to demonstrate that you possess the required skills you may need to go to a chronological resume or reassess the job your are applying for.
