What You Need To Know About Career Change Resume Writing And Why

Career change resume writing can be a challenge. Why? Because you will need to demonstrate how the skills you have acquired in one career can be a benefit in your new one.

And, you need to state this in a way that will put you ahead of the competition, many of whom may have years of experience in the field.

Where do you start?

You start by changing your perspective from “look what I have accomplished” to “look what I can do for your company”.

So,

“Professional with more than 10 years experience in the research-based pharmaceutical industry”

becomes:

”Communication, organization, and creativity are among my most highly developed skills"

You must also change your resume from a traditional Chronological Resume to a Functional Resume . Where a chronological resume will focus on your experience, functional resumes emphasize your skills.

Before applying in your new career, consider what skills the employer will be looking for. Do you have these skills?

In a career change resume you will list your skills under a heading like:

“Relevant Skills and Accomplishments” or
“Relevant Experience and Accomplishments”.

In this section you should list 3-4 major skill sets that your desired job requires. Skills could include selling experience, managerial experience, customer relations…

Under each major skill set list, in bullet form 3-5 accomplishments that demonstrate that you are competent at that skill.

Always start sentences with Actions word , like Achieved, Succeeded, and Initiated.
